Group 6 - Taking water samples and review of the catchment area

In October 3, we four Chinese, a German girl, and a Finnish local student gathered in the lake at half past eight in the morning for tasks 2 and 1. The weather is sunny and  cloudless, in case that experiment went very well.
task 2 taking water samples
We have to take three water samples for this task. We took two water samples at the incoming to the lake and took one at the outcoming. We came to the first water intake point, as shown in the following figure.
First we opened the bottle and fixed it in extension arm, then put it into the water. When the bottle was full of water, removed it to the ground at 9:02 a.m.and marked it with speed, category, time and location. This was the whole procedure of experiment.
we took the second and third water samples in the same way at outcoming of Iso-Valkeinen and incoming of Pieni-Valkeinen respectively at the time of 9:14 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. The temperature was 7 degrees. the wind speed is Southeast wind, 3-4,the hunmidness is 81%

What need pay attention to is that one should open and close the bottle with gloves instead of directly using hands so that not to cause pollution. Besides the sample bottle cannot contact the bottom of the lake as well. We found the colour of the two incoming water samples of one lake are different , as shown below.

task 1 review of the catchment area
start point: we found that there were some buleberries. The trees were old and big and some were cut down already. There were little bush as well.
the second point: we found that there were two different secenries at the two sides of the road.
One side: it was a nature area. There were more trees and higher grass. The leaves were more yellow. We considered that there were more sunlight, the weather varied a lot and the spieces and age of the trees were different.
The other side: There were more firs trees , moss and pine trees.

the third point: We found that there was a small ditch.
Along the ditch there were pumps and blocks. Water flows into the ground or the lake fastly.

the last point
this point is hollowness, there were many indicators and different kinds of plants therefore it was a good place for kids' education.

  1. Thank you for report,

There is only one sampling point presented in map (figure 1). I think that point is incoming of Iso-Valkeinen lake. Did you took other samples from incoming and outgoing of Pieni-Valkeinen lake? Please put those places also into a map.

You have found many interesting things from the catchment area. Did you tasted those blueberries? They are delicious. You didn't answer all the question which was given to you. One of the main questions was: What is the main source of pollutants causing possible negative effects to water quality?

Please discuss this with your group mates and provide some kind of answer by replying this comment.

    Regards,

    Teemu
